Pep Guardiola has confirmed Manchester City will give Liverpool a guard of honour at the Etihad on Thursday.
The Citizens, who ultimately sealed the title for the Reds, relinquish their status as reigning Premier League title holders. Their loss against Chelsea meant Jurgen Klopp’s side didn’t even need to play another game before they were crowned champions.
As reported by the Liverpool ECHO, Guardiola has confirmed Liverpool will be honoured at the Etihad. When asked about whether his team will go ahead with the formality, the Spaniard replied: “Of course we are going to do it.”
Can Liverpool reach 100 points this season?
Liverpool’s title win has smashed the previous record of how quickly the league has been wrapped up. The Reds make history as the new quickest side, with seven games still left to play (via ESPN).
Loads of Kopites have responded to Guardiola’s comments and are showing their respects for him and his professionalism. Read some of the replies from the Anfield faithful here:
Let’s be real about this, this was never in doubt. Pep is a classy guy and deserves our respect, even if we have managed to get on his nerves at times.
