Some Liverpool fans were not impressed with the treatment of former Reds’ favourite Philippe Coutinho at Barcelona.
According to journalist Javi Miguel, the La Liga giants will avoid using the 27-year-old for the rest of the 2020/21 campaign to avoid paying The Reds €5m (£4.3m). This is due to an appearance clause in his contract.
Barcelona have found themselves in major financial trouble due to the pandemic, and their debts are believed to be in the region of €1.2bn (£1bn), which is said to be the main reason why they have made this decision.
Would you like Coutinho back at Liverpool?
Because of this, supporters felt sorry for Coutinho, who was formerly an adored figure among the Kop faithful, with one fan suggested that he follow in the footsteps of Luis Suarez and leave the debt-ridden club.
Coutinho earns sympathy from these fans
“Wasted at that club, needs to do a Suarez and leave.”
“Such a Gem of a player but destroyed his career all himself.”
“Not exactly fair on him”
“Sad, it really is, the fact Barca want to ruin his career just so they don’t pay a couple of million, it’s sad”
“Is that even ethical?”
“What a mess they’re in.”
