Liverpool: Fans slam Richarlison’s recent comments on Virgil van Dijk - Liverpool News

Richarlison has recently spoken about an altercation he had with Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk during December’s Merseyside derby, which has caught the attention of many of the Anfield faithful.

The Everton star has revealed why he clashed with the Dutch defender during his side’s 5-2 defeat against the Reds earlier this season.

Speaking to globoesporte.globo.com (relayed via @LFCTransferRoom), the Brazilian admitted his slanging match with van Dijk was part of his game plan.

“Of course I was never going to back down,” Richarlison said. “There was a disagreement during the game, which ended up in the typical heated way. I was also having the fight to waste time, and the Liverpool players did not like it.”

A lot of fans are responding to the forward’s comments and are confused as to why he was time-wasting during a match Everton were losing. Arguably due to the altercation, Gini Wijnaldum was able to find the back of the net to rub salt into the wounds of the Toffees. His 90th minute strike put three goals between the two Merseyside clubs and the Reds claimed all three points from their bitter rivals.

In what year did Jurgen Klopp join Liverpool?

One supporter has commented on the tweet saying the £46.8million-valued Everton man is ‘not worth tweeting about’, whilst others laugh off Richarlison’s attempt to resurrect a forgotten feud. A number of fans had already hit out at the 23-year-old for his comments leading up to the most recent derby.
