Liverpool: James Pearce lauds Curtis Jones following Tottenham triumph

James Pearce singled out Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones for praise following his side’s 2-1 victory against Tottenham last night.
Pearce hails Jones
The Reds earned themselves a hard-fought victory against a defensive-focused Jose Mourinho side to return to the top of the Premier League table.
Mohamed Salah gave the hosts the lead, thanks to a slice of luck from Spurs’ Eric Dier. Son Heung Min fought back just six minutes later before Roberto Firmino sealed the Merseysiders’ early Christmas present with a 90-minute header.
Pearce, who covers Liverpool for The Athletic, highlighted Jones as the man that deserved to be in the limelight after he was given the man of the match award.
Curtis Jones, a 19-year-old Scouser, delivering a man of the match performance in a top-of-the-table Premier League clash. Growing in stature with every game. His development over the past 12 months has been immense. He belongs in this team. #LFC

Per Whoscored, Jones was given a match rating of 7.22 after winning four aerial duels, having three shots on goal and accumulating a pass success rate of 93.8%.
This is not the first time the young prospect has received plaudits. Manager Jurgen Klopp described him as an “unbelievable player” after his wonder goal against Everton last season (cited by This is Anfield).
Transfer Tavern Verdict
Pearce is right. Jones is only 19 years old and stepped up to the plate in what was a huge game for Liverpool.
Possessing this sort of mentality, at that age, deserves a lot of credit to be directed his way, and has sent a clear message to Klopp about starting him in big games to come.
Time will tell whether he can remain consistent going forward. But with this in mind, last night could not have been a better advert for him.
In other news, Liverpool fans gush over European talent who ‘would be a beast for Klopp.’
