Liverpool correspondent James Pearce has labelled the latest injury update on Luiz Diaz as a ‘massive blow’.

The Lowdown: Liverpool regular

Diaz has been a regular under Jurgen Klopp since arriving at Anfield earlier in the year from FC Porto. The 25-year-old has contributed to 18 goals in 35 appearances and has featured in every game so far this season.

However, he now looks set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury in the first half of Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Arsenal.

The Latest: Pearce reacts

Pearce shared an update regarding Diaz’s condition on Twitter, saying that the Colombian looks set to be out for six to eight weeks following a scan.

While surgery is not required, the reporter described it as a ‘massive blow considering his form’, with Diaz unlikely to play again before the World Cup.

The Verdict: Bad to worse

Pearce recently labelled an injury update on midfielder Arthur Melo as 'devastating' while Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also set to miss some time, so this update on Diaz is a major blow for both the player and club, with things seemingly going from bad to worse.

He looks set to miss Liverpool’s next ten games in all competitions prior to the World Cup, so Klopp will need to find a way to replace the talented left-winger who he has relied on heavily in recent months.

Hopefully, with Colombia not qualifying for the World Cup, Diaz can work his way back to full fitness during the domestic break and be ready to go on Boxing Day against Aston Villa.
