Liverpool have received a seismic injury boost regarding star man Sadio Mane with Manchester United on the horizon.
The 28-year-old picked up a back issue during the Reds’ 4-1 victory against Aston Villa in the FA Cup earlier this month. Mane looked to be in great discomfort after scoring his side’s opener but he knuckled down for 74 minutes to see out the match.
The Senegalese star has been one of Liverpool’s most dangerous attacking options for several years. Having shared the Premier League Golden Boot with African duo Mohamed Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2019, Mane has scored 90 goals from 194 appearances for the club (TransferMarkt) and is now one of the club’s top 20 all-time goal scorers.
Speaking before the game against United, Mane was quick to reassure supporters that he will be available for this afternoon’s table-topping encounter at Anfield.
“Yeah, it was just a knock and when I got it, it took a few minutes to settle down,” he told the club’s official website.
“It was like a dead leg, but on my hip – not my back. After the game, I put an ice pack on it and it was fine. I am completely fine and looking forward.”
Transfer Tavern Verdict
This is massive news for Liverpool. The Reds are always a better team with Mane involved and they show greater attacking prowess with the Senegalese star playing in front of teammate Andy Robertson.
Arguably, he is one of the first names on the team sheet these days and he continues to play a key role in Klopp’s team, and has been doing so ever since his £34m move from Southampton in 2016.
With Liverpool still without a few key players absent, such as Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez – Mane’s availability may well be the silver lining on the proverbial cloud.
