Liverpool will have Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount ‘at the top’ of their wishlist in 2023, according to Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson.

The Lowdown: Reds tracking Mount

The Premier League sensation’s contract at Stamford Bridge is set to expire in just under two years, and having not yet put pen to paper on an extension, his future is up in the air.

The Reds, alongside Juventus, are both reportedly eyeing the 23-year-old after being alerted to his situation, and with the need for central signings strong, a move to Anfield could be on the cards.

The Latest: Robinson’s opinion

Asked by Football Insider whether Mount fits the right profile of player that Liverpool need to sign, Robinson said:

“I think Mount is capable of playing in a deeper midfield role.

“Liverpool are crying out for midfielders.

“A lot depends on whether a takeover happens. If the finances are available, I’m sure Mount would be at the top of Liverpool’s shopping list along with Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice.

“The midfield is where Liverpool have been really lacking this year. We know they have been susceptible defensively.

“I think a lot of that is down to the midfield. It is an area that should have been addressed 12 months ago.”

The Verdict: Perfect candidate

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner are all out of contract next summer so reinforcements are definitely needed, and Mount would be the perfect candidate.

The €75 million (£64m)-rated England international has posted ten goal contributions in 21 appearances across all competitions and offers versatility having operated in four different positions this season (Transfermarkt).

Josh Bunting previously dubbed Mount ‘sublime’, and for someone who can produce the creativity that Jurgen Klopp admires, FSG should be all over a deal next year.
