Liverpool: Reds interested in shock move for Matt O’Riley -Liverpool News

Liverpool are interested in a move for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Celtic in a strong position

The 21-year-old only joined the club in January so the Hoops won’t be under any pressure to sell given his contract isn’t set to expire until 2026.

Ange Postecoglou’s side won’t want to let their relatively new prized asset leave this summer, but his impressive performances in Glasgow appear to have caught the eye of a few potential suitors.

The Latest: Liverpool keen on O’Riley

According to ESPN, O’Riley has been ‘attracting plenty of attention’ from Liverpool, alongside Premier League rivals Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Leicester City, as well as Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund.

It’s stated that whilst the Bhoys have ‘no interest’ in losing their maestro, any bid placed that’s within the region of £15-20m ‘could be tempting’ for them to accept.

It’s believed that Newcastle and Leicester are the two teams ‘most likely’ to make an approach.

The Verdict: Potential bargain

O’Riley undoubtedly has that creative spark in midfield that Jurgen Klopp loves, and if Liverpool could agree a deal within the approximated asking price, it would be a shrewd coup.

The Denmark U21 international, dubbed a ‘silent hero’ and ‘immense’ by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, made 12 appearances for Celtic in the second half of last season, racking up six goal contributions during that time, via WhoScored.

Should Liverpool sign O'Riley?

Whilst O’Riley wouldn’t be a guaranteed starter, he has bags of potential and would provide Klopp with a much more youthful option in the middle of the park, while also being a far cheaper alternative to the likes of Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde.
