Liverpool are reportedly one of the clubs looking to make an offer to sign Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar

The Lowdown: Skriniar's situation at Inter

As things stand, the defender is set to see his contract at the Serie A club expire at the end of the season, with the Nerazzurri's attempts to renew that deal so far meeting a dead end.

In terms of his on-field exploits, the 27-year-old has played in all of Inter's games this season across all competitions,  donning the captain's armband on several occasions.

Despite his clear importance to the team, the £92k-per-week defender could be set for a move away from the club, with several English suitors eyeing him up.

The Latest: Liverpool in the mix for Skriniar

Speaking to TEAMtalk, journalist Graeme Bailey shared some insight about Skriniar's current situation and the interest in him from Liverpool and other Premier League clubs.

The journalist said: "Most clubs who are now showing an interest did not believe that he would be leaving Inter, but their attempts to tie him to a new contract have thus far not proven successful.

"Inter still believe that they will convince him to stay but he will very soon be able to field those pre-contract offers.

"Paris Saint-Germain were always and still are, but now all the Premier League top clubs are interested – the chance to land one of the world’s best defenders at 27, does not come along too often.

"So even someone like Manchester City, who don’t have a new centre-half at the top of their wanted list, are ready to put an offer to him. But so are Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle."

The Verdict: Liverpool must be ruthless

To highlight what the Slovakian would be able to offer Jurgen Klopp's side, the centre-back has shown in Serie A this season how impressive he is both in and out of possession.

For example, Skriniar currently boasts the highest passing accuracy percentage of any player at Inter (91.9%), along with having the third-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (31) at the club and the second-highest number of clearances (32).

Hailed as a "monster" on the pitch by journalist Carlo Garganese, it's easy to see why Inter are keen to see the defender sign a new deal at the club, and why so many Premier League clubs are circling around him.

In our view, if an opportunity to sign Skriniar comes up, then Liverpool must be ruthless in their approach and do all that they can to beat their top-flight rivals to his signature.
