Many Liverpool fans were not happy with forward Mohamed Salah during his side’s Champions League last 16 game against RB Leipzig.
The match had been moved to Hungary due to COVID-19 restrictions in Germany, with the Reds fielding as strong a line-up as they possibly can in light of their catastrophic injury list. Yet, despite having their main stars on show, Jurgen Klopp’s side were unable to break the deadlock by half-time, with some Liverpool fans voicing their frustrations at Salah in particular.
The former AS Roma man had an opportunity to pass to his striking partner Sadio Mane but opted not to and forced a save from former Reds’ shot-stopper Peter Gulacsi.
At the half-way mark, the 28-year-old was on a 6.4 match rating as per Sofascore (the joint-lowest of any player on the pitch), having missed that big chance, providing no key passes whatsoever and losing possession ten times – only Trent Alexander-Arnold conceded the ball on more occasions (12).
The Egyptian, who is currently the leading scorer in the Premier League, was scrutinised recently by talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent who suggested that Liverpool’s number eleven was developing an attitude problem.
Does Mo Salah get unwarranted stick?
Despite being arguably one of their most threatening players from that first-half, a minority of supporters took it upon themselves to let rip at the £108m-rated Salah, with one fan suggesting that he should be sold next summer.
Fans not impressed with Salah
“The sooner we get rid of Salah and Firmino the better!! Time to move on.”
“Salah only knows how to run in straight lines, can’t change directions at all”
“Salah looking like an O35 player, the mind is there but the touch and body isn’t as sharp as it used to be”
“Salah is like James Harden off the ball”
“So if #Salah just squares that central to #Mane it’s a tap in and 1-0. It’s moments like this that #Citys front three make that pass, but #Lfc don’t… And the individual greed shows. That is the difference. #RBLLFC #UCL”
“Salah and Mane are clearly not best friends. SO selfish not playing him in there”
