Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is being monitored by AC Milan, according to reports in Italy.

The Lowdown: Keita's time at Liverpool

Liverpool secured a deal worth £48m for the midfielder back in 2017 before he eventually moved to Anfield a year later.

Since then, the 27-year-old has gone on to make 117 appearances for the Reds across all competitions prior to tonight's Carabao Cup clash against Manchester City.

With Keita's contract set to expire at the end of the season, the £120k-per-week midfielder has found himself on the radar of one of Europe's biggest clubs.

The Latest: Milan monitoring Keita

According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Milan are monitoring the Reds midfielder and believe that he is unlikely to sign a new deal at Anfield, potentially paving the way for the Italian club to sign him as a free agent in the summer.

This would of course be a huge loss for FSG on the near £50m they shelled out to sign the former RB Leipzig talent.

The report also adds however that there are behind-the-scenes concerns over a potential move for the player in regards to his hefty wages and his prominent injury record.

The Verdict: Liverpool should get rid

Despite being praised by media members like Josh Bunting for "superb" form he showed for Guinea back at AFCON 2022, we feel that getting rid of Keita should be something that Liverpool consider.

As mentioned in the report, the Reds figure has had his fair share of injury issues since his arrival at the Merseyside club, meaning he's not always been particularly reliable in terms of his availability.

With that in mind, it may not be worth seeing the club offer the midfielder a new contract to keep him at Anfield beyond this season.

Also, with the Reds being linked with transfer moves for the likes of Jude Bellingham, Enzo Fernandez and Sofyan Amrabat, this suggests that they are looking to refresh their midfield, which could put Keita's future in jeopardy regardless of whether he can stay fit.
