Liverpool: Reds awaiting offers for Neco Williams

Liverpool: Reds awaiting offers for Neco Williams -Liverpool News

Liverpool are now waiting for offers for want-away full-back Neco Williams, according to a report from GOAL

The lowdown: Ward busy

Having already sealed the arrivals of Fabio Carvalho, Calvin Ramsay and Darwin Nunez, newly appointed Sporting Director Julian Ward is expected to focus on outgoings rather than incomings for much of the remainder of the transfer window.

On the same day superstar forward Sadio Mane arrived in Munich to finalise a move to Bayern, Liverpool agreed to a deal worth £15.5million to sell Takumi Minamino to French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

Now, further exits could be imminent as Ward and Jurgen Klopp trim down the squad and in turn bolster the transfer coffers for a potential raid elsewhere…

The latest: Williams next?

As per GOAL, Liverpool ‘hope to agree a deal worth around £15 million’ for Williams during the summer window.

It’s claimed that the interest in the 21-year-old has been ‘high’ on the back of a successful loan spell at Fulham and the London club are themselves ‘keen to make the move permanent’, with an official bid expected soon.

Nottingham Forest are also believed to be interested in the 21-cap Wales ace, who Klopp once admitted the Reds would’ve been ‘lost’ without amidst a crippling injury crisis during the 2020/21 campaign.

The verdict: Time has come

Ultimately, the chances Williams had of obtaining any form of regular first-team action next season fell by the wayside when the Anfield club were willing to pay £6.5million for Ramsay.

Brought in to act as an understudy to the coveted Trent Alexander-Arnold, the 18-year-old’s presence means that the Welshman – who expressed a desire to move back last year after a successful Euro 2020 campaign – must seek pastures new this summer or face a prolonged spell in the wilderness on Merseyside.

Having scored twice and provided a further two assists in a 14-match spell in the Championship last term it’s no surprise that the attack-minded right-back would be a sought-after commodity and a departure should be one of Ward’s easier pieces of business this summer.

Despite showing signs of promise in his 36 senior outings for the club, Williams never truly established himself as a regular in Klopp’s plans and a move would be best for all concerned at this juncture.
