Liverpool are interested in signing Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele this summer, according to a transfer report which has emerged from a Spanish outlet.

The Lowdown: Dembele to leave Barcelona?

The 25-year-old has had a curious career in many ways, possessing undoubted ability but not always meeting the huge expectations thrust upon him.

Dembele did enjoy an improved 2021/22 season, though, registering an impressive 13 assists in just 21 La Liga appearances, making his mark under current Barcelona manager Xavi as he achieved the best goals/assists output for a league campaign in his five years at the club.

Nonetheless, the France international could be allowed to leave the Nou Camp this summer, with his current contract expiring later this week.

The Latest: Liverpool linked with Dembele

According to Sport, Liverpool are in the conversation to sign Dembele this summer, with Jurgen Klopp apparently a fan of the player, although the report did attribute that as originating from English media.

They instead focus more on Chelsea, who appear to be the front-runners to sign the winger. The Blues are thought to have a 'firm proposal' in place to sign him.

The Verdict: Too hit-and-miss?

Dembele is an enormous talent who is capable of match-winning moments on his day - he was once described by ex-Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu as a 'better player than Neymar' - so there is bound to be some excitement over him being linked with Liverpool.

That being said, injuries have consistently curtailed the 25-year-old's progress, while his attitude has been questioned at times, making it a potentially risky move by the Reds.

In that case, Klopp would be better off looking elsewhere for another attacking signing, with Porto winger Otavio linked in recent days and arguably a more consistent and reliable performer.
