Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson was taken aback by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s luck after Naby Keita limped off injured against Leicester City.
Robinson questions Anfield voodoo
The 25-year-old started his fifth Premier League game of the campaign and had to leave the field after 54 minutes while clutching his hamstring, but accumulated a pass success rate of 87.9% and had two shots on goal during the game (Whoscored).
Keita adds to the catastrophic amount of injuries that Liverpool currently have. Particularly in defence, with their first-choice centre-back pairing Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both ruled out with season-ending knee injuries.
The Guinea international started to hit his stride at the back end of last season, which led to Van Dijk describing him as “incredible” (cited by Goal).
Despite this, Liverpool are still in touching distance at the top of the Premier League after a convincing win against the 2016 Premier League winners, as the Reds look to retain their domestic crown.
Speaking to Football Insider before last night’s defeat to Atalanta, Robinson said: “It was a massive opportunity for Keita, given the injuries that they have got at the moment.
“Liverpool deserve a lot of credit for the way that they played against Leicester, 3-0 was a convincing victory.
“They have 10 or 11 first-teamers out injured so Jurgen must have ran across a big black cat! He is certainly not having much luck with injuries.
“But Curtis Jones came in and took his huge opportunity while the back four also did well.”
Transfer Tavern Verdict
Liverpool’s problems appear to be going to bad to worse. But they can seek reassurance from the fact that it is just over a month until the transfer window opens its doors.
Klopp will be massively disappointed to lose Keita again, who has struggled with various fitness issues since his £48m move from RB Leipzig in 2018.
That being said, it will be interesting to see what Liverpool have planned for Keita, having missed 28 games for the Reds which is set to increase.
And in other news, Liverpool fans singled out £49.5k-a-week man for criticism after Atalanta defeat.
