Liverpool attacker Darwin Nunez is unlikely to be fit for his team's Premier League clash against Wolves this week, according to injury expert Ben Dinnery.

The Lowdown: Must-win game for Reds

The Reds host Julen Lopetegui's team at Anfield on Wednesday night in what represents a must-win game for the home side in the top-four battle this season, with nine points to make up on fourth-placed Tottenham.

Last weekend's dour 0-0 draw away to Crystal Palace saw yet more points dropped during an increasingly disappointing season, and another poor result against Wolves could feel fatal to the Merseysiders' slim hopes of salvaging Champions League qualification for 2023/24.

Nunez missed the game against the Eagles because of a shoulder issue, and an update has now emerged regarding his potential involvement in midweek.

The Latest: Nunez could miss out

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Dinnery admitted that the Uruguayan could once again be unavailable for the visit of Wolves to Anfield.

The injury expert said of Nunez:

"It might be difficult for him to be back in contention for the Wolves game because, obviously, it's a quick turnaround.

"He picked up that initial knock in a challenge with Kieran Trippier at St James' Park. We said at the time that there's a possibility that there may have been a slight shoulder separation or just a heavy impact. It turns out it was the latter of the two, so it's just a bit of pain management with regard to that.

"As Jurgen Klopp said, because there's no structural damage in and around there, they were able to give a bit of a painkilling injection. However, he picked up another knock in the same area against Real Madrid, so that's a slight worry, and he wasn't able to move his arm."

The Verdict: Injury blows keep coming

A lot has been to blame for Liverpool's hugely below-par season, from physical to mental shortcomings, but injuries have clearly played a part, with Jurgen Klopp constantly having to make do without key players.

Nunez certainly fits into that bracket, having scored 12 goals so far in his debut season for the Reds and been hailed as 'scary' by Jamie Carragher, and his likely absence on Wednesday would be a big blow.

The pace and power that the 23-year-old provides gives Liverpool an extra dimension, and with Luis Diaz still out and both Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino still searching for rhythm after recently returning from lengthy absences, the Reds are weakened significantly without their club-record signing to call upon.
