Liverpool: Jordan Henderson set for extended spell out injured

Liverpool: Jordan Henderson set for extended spell out injured -Liverpool News

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is set to be out with a hamstring injury for a number of weeks, according to journalist David Maddock.

The Lowdown: Henderson limps off

The Reds picked up a memorable 2-1 win at home to Newcastle United on Wednesday night, with Fabio Carvalho’s late winner potentially a big moment in their season.

Henderson was substituted in the second half and replaced by James Milner, in what looked like nothing more than a tactical substitution at the time.

It was since confirmed that he had picked up a hamstring injury, however, with a scan then set to determine the severity of it.

The Latest: Captain out for weeks

According to The Mirror‘s Maddock, Liverpool are fearful that Henderson’s injury is ‘serious’, which is part of the reason they have signed Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus.

The 32-year-old will definitely miss the upcoming games against Everton, Napoli, Wolves, Ajax and Chelsea, meaning he is out of all the remaining September fixtures.

The Verdict: Yet another blow

This is another massive blow for Liverpool, considering Thiago, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are already absent with injuries of their own.

Granted, Henderson hasn’t made an impressive start to the season, looking out of form and off the pace, but his presence is still significant and the depth has taken another hit.

With the skipper out against Everton on Saturday, it would be a surprise if James Milner didn’t come in and captain Liverpool, with the veteran a less exciting option than Carvalho but someone whose experience could be priceless in a fiery Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
