Liverpool have made contact with Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Kouadio 'Manu' Kone over a transfer to the club, journalist Jacque Talbot reports.

The Lowdown: Kone shining in Germany

At just 21, the Frenchman is already still a key starter for Monchengladbach, making a total of 14 starts in the Bundesliga so far this season.

Kone has averaged an impressive 2.1 tackles per game in the competition in 2022/23 to date, not to mention 1.6 dribbles per match, showing his quality and energy on both sides of the ball.

As Liverpool desperately search for new midfielders, the youngster appears to be in the mix to head to Anfield.

The Latest: Liverpool make contact

Taking to Twitter, Talbot name-checked Kone as a Reds target, claiming that talks had taken place over a move:

"Exc: Told Atalanta will refuse to sell reported Liverpool target Teun Koopmeiners this window. Aiming for Europa and have already sold off Ruslan Malinovskyi to Marseille. Hear there have been talks between Reds and Khephren Thuram of Nice - and Kouadio Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach too."

The Verdict: Brilliant young option

Kone is still very much a maturing player but he is somebody who could add some life to Liverpool's ageing midfield, providing Jurgen Klopp with a more spritely option.

His experience in the Bundesliga proves that he could go straight in as an important player for the Reds, however, and he has also won six caps for France's Under-21 side.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig described Kone as a 'one-man army' who 'left his heart on the pitch' against Bayern Munich back in August, and this level of physical dominance is precisely what Liverpool need.
