Liverpool could look to make a move for Napoli and Poland midfielder Piotr Zielinski during the summer transfer window, according to a fresh rumour.

The Lowdown: Zielinski a key man for Napoli

The 28-year-old is part of a Napoli team who are on the cusp of history this season, with a first Serie A title since 1990 now tantalisingly on the horizon.

Zielinski has been a key member of the team throughout the campaign, starting 16 league matches and also appearing in all six Champions League group stage matches.

The Pole is out of contract at Napoli in 2024, however, so this summer could be significant when it comes to his future.

The Latest: Liverpool eyeing up move

According to Il Mattino, Liverpool hold a long-term interest in making a move for Zielinski, should the midfielder decide to move on at the end of this season.

Everton are also mentioned in the report, however, with the Napoli man apparently liking the idea of a summer move to the Premier League.

The Verdict: Strong midfield addition

Zielinski was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool back in the summer of 2016, but they ended up signing Gini Wijnaldum instead, so Jurgen Klopp has seemingly been an admirer of his for years.

The fact that he has 89 caps to his name for Poland speaks volumes about both his experience and quality, not to mention winning the Italian Cup in 2020.

Zielinski has been hailed as 'complete' and 'dynamic' by managerial legend Carlo Ancelotti and he would bring the legs and technical so sorely lacking at Liverpool this season, averaging 1.8 tackles and 1.5 clearances per game for Poland at the 2022 World Cup.

The one potential negative is that he does turn 29 this year, though, which could see Klopp prefer younger options who can be midfield mainstays for longer.
