Liverpool are about to get a 'huge boost' when winger Luis Diaz makes his much-awaited return from injury, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Lowdown: Diaz missing for months

The Reds have suffered a horribly injury-plagued season to date, with endless key players missing chunks of action and Jurgen Klopp hampered because of it.

One of Liverpool's most high-profile absentees has been Diaz, who burst onto the scene at Anfield last January and became a vital player from the moment he arrived.

Unfortunately, the flying winger suffered a serious knee injury in the defeat away to Arsenal back in October and he hasn't featured since, having aggravated the issue in a training camp late last year.

After five long months out of action, however, it does look as though Diaz is closing in on a return to action after the current international break has ended.

The Latest: Journalist reacts

Speaking to Give Me Sport, O'Rourke admitted that Diaz's imminent return would act as a major positive for Liverpool:

"It's a huge boost if they can get Luis Diaz back. He’s been sorely missed since he picked up an injury against Arsenal.

"He’s been out for a long period now as well, so it might take him a bit of time to find his best form, but he made such an impact last January following his arrival from Porto in the winter transfer window. He became a key man in Jurgen Klopp’s side and was a regular in the starting XI as well.

"So, he would add more attacking options to Liverpool for the final couple of months of the season, and it would be a welcome boost for Klopp if they are to try and get back into this race for the top four."

The Verdict: Massive boost for Liverpool

Diaz has been an absolutely massive loss for Liverpool this season, with his pace, unpredictability and end product all so influential for Klopp's team.

Prior to his injury, he had arguably been the Reds' standout player in the first couple of months of the season, scoring a superb individual goal at home to Crystal Palace and netting four times overall.

Admittedly, Diaz will need to be managed carefully upon his return and won't necessarily find his most lethal form to begin with, but just having him back in the fold will act as such a big boost.

The 37-cap Colombia star has been described as a 'top world level player' by Klopp and he can be one of the biggest heroes at Anfield into the future, as older stars around him potentially drift past their peak.
