Liverpool looking to sign three midfielders this summer - Liverpool News

Liverpool want to bring in three new central midfielders during the summer transfer window, according to an exciting new transfer rumour.

The Lowdown: Midfield a huge issue for Reds

The Reds have endured an awful season so far, with a top-four finish looking far from a formality and a Champions League exit now almost certain.

There have been numerous reasons for Liverpool’s struggles but the midfield has been the biggest problem, with the likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson shadows of their former selves and players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita coming to the end of their contracts.

Huge investment is required in that area this summer and an encouraging update suggests that that will be the case.

The Latest: Three signings wanted

According to Football Insider reporter Wayne Veysey, Liverpool have ‘set their sights’ on signing three new midfielders this summer, as they eye up a ‘total overhaul’ in the middle of the park.

It could be that Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner all move on, while others are set to ‘drop down the pecking order’.

The Verdict: Simply a must this summer

This should come as a huge relief to Reds fans, and frankly, it is something that needs to happen this summer, with FSG’s legacy perhaps defined by their ability to provide Jurgen Klopp with transfer funds this time around.

The midfield has dropped off a cliff this term, with Fabinho and Henderson now being outrun in the same way they themselves used to dominate opponents, and Thiago continuing to be injury-prone.

Jude Bellingham continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool and he is a must at this point – he is described as the ‘top target’ in the report – but the 22-cap England superstar can’t transform the midfield on his own.

Wolves man Matheus Nunes and Chelsea ace Mason Mount are two others who have been backed to join the Reds, and hypothetically, if they both arrived as well, the Reds would suddenly have so much more legs and talent in their ranks.
