Liverpool: Reds eyeing summer move for Youri Tielemans

Liverpool are ‘plotting a move’ for Leicester City and Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans in the summer transfer window, according to a fresh rumour.
The Lowdown: Tielemans on the move?
The 25-year-old has enjoyed a great period at the King Power Stadium, racking up 187 appearances and famously scoring the only goal in the 2021 FA Cup final against Chelsea.
Tielemans has continued to be a key man for the Foxes this season, appearing in 23 of their 25 Premier League games, but he has also been linked with a move away in the summer.
Liverpool are one of those who have been tipped to snap up the Belgian in recent times and their interest doesn’t seem to be going away.
The Latest: Liverpool linked with signing
According to Football Insider, the Reds are ‘plotting a move’ for Tielemans at the end of the season, with his current Leicester deal expiring at that point.
Liverpool see it as a deal of ‘tremendous value’, with the midfielder available on a free transfer, but they do face ‘stiff competition’ from clubs in both England and across Europe.
The Verdict: Ideal midfield quality
There is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp‘s midfield needs a major rebuild this summer, with doubts surrounding the long-term worth of the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Thiago, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
At least three new midfielders need to come in and Tielemans could be the perfect signing, possessing the all-round game Klopp will want, having scored three goals and averaged 2.1 tackles per game in the league this season.
The 58-cap Belgium international is both hugely experienced and still relatively young – Brendan Rodgers has called him ‘one of Europe’s top midfielders’ – and his quality and legs could help transform Liverpool’s ailing midfield.
In truth, there aren’t many negatives regarding the Reds signing the Leicester maestro – if the move doesn’t work out, they won’t have paid a fee for his services – and he has proven over 143 Premier League outings that he can excel in the English top flight, unlike some other possible targets.
