Liverpool midfielder Thiago is facing up to six weeks out injured after suffering a hamstring problem against Fulham, James Pearce reports.

The Lowdown: Thiago injured again

The Reds could only draw 2-2 at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon, as their 2022/23 Premier League campaign got off to a disappointing start.

Unfortunately, Liverpool also had to deal with Thiago picking up the latest injury of a frustrating Anfield career, as these sorts of problems continue to derail the form of one of the club's finest players.

There has been concern regarding the influential Spaniard's absence in the days since and now a worrying update has been provided on social media.

The Latest: Pearce confirms extent of problem

Taking to Twitter on Monday night, The Athletic's Pearce confirmed that Thiago is expected to be out for six weeks, meaning he could miss as many as nine games:

The Verdict: Becoming an issue now

Thiago is a wonderful footballer who makes Liverpool a different team when he is available, playing passes others can't see and bringing a world-class level of control to the midfield.

Unfortunately, it is impossible for Jurgen Klopp to keep relying on him as a key figure, however, because of the number of injuries he picks up every year.

He has never started more than 26 league games in a season in his career, and at 31, that is unlikely to change now.

Thiago now needs to be treated as something of a luxury player - someone who starts when fit but can't be looked at as a definite regular - meaning a new midfielder needs to come in between now and the end of the summer transfer window.
