Liverpool: Inter Milan join race for Naby Keita

Liverpool: Inter Milan join race for Naby Keita - Liverpool News

Serie A giants Inter Milan are among the teams considering making a move for Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita this summer, according to a fresh transfer rumour.

The Lowdown: Keita nearly out of contract

The 28-year-old has once again suffered a frustrating season for the Reds, as his five-year spell at Anfield continues to be largely underwhelming.

Keita didn’t make his first appearance of the campaign until December and his performances have been hit-and-miss since, with Jurgen Klopp substituting him at half-time against Crystal Palace last weekend.

The Guinean is out of contract at Liverpool this summer and interest in him appears to have emerged.

The Latest: Interest flooding in

According to Gazzetta dello Sport [via Sport Witness], Inter are ‘thinking about’ making a move for Keita at the end of the season.

The player’s representatives are thought to be ‘looking around’ for new clubs, with Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig also among those in the conversation, and there have already been direct approaches to the midfielder’s entourage.

The Verdict: Has to leave this summer

Letting Keita go this summer is an absolute no-brainer for Liverpool, with the midfielder such an injury-prone figure that he has still only has 77 starts, in what is now his fifth season at Anfield.

The 50-time capped Guinea international is simply unavailable too often to persevere with, but even when he does play, his performances can be instantly forgettable.

There is clear talent there when it comes to Keita – Virgil van Dijk has hailed him as ‘world-class, for example – but he has reached a natrual end of the road at Liverpool.

Klopp needs a major rebuild in midfield this summer and the Reds’ No.8 is someone who has to be moved on, as is arguably the case with fellow contract expiries James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
