Liverpool are still interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, according to Sky Sports.

The Lowdown: Caicedo speculation

The Reds were thought to be keeping tabs on Caicedo in the summer and continued to be linked with a swoop heading into 2023.

Reports prior to the New Year even suggested that the club have already had a bid rejected by Brighton for the Ecuador international. A new midfielder appears to be next on the list after signing forward Cody Gakpo, and an update has now emerged on Caicedo.

The Latest: Sky Sports update

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth shared a story on Caicedo, suggesting that Liverpool and Chelsea are still interested in a transfer.

Brighton reportedly don’t want to sell and are under no pressure to do so, with the 21-year-old still under contract until 2025.

The Verdict: Needed?

It seems as if all eyes are on a midfield signing at Anfield, and Caicedo, who South American football expert Tim Vickery described the player as a 'terrific athlete' back in 2021, could be a shrewd addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

He featured for the Seagulls in the 3-0 win over the Reds last weekend and Caicedo has actually outperformed every single Liverpool midfielder so far this season in the top flight, as per WhoScored.

The player appears to be going from strength to strength in the Premier League, with his Transfermarkt valuation rising from €6m back in June to €38m as of today.

Still just 21 years of age, he can play in two midfield roles so would also offer versatility as a defensive and central midfielder. A transfer could prove tricky, though, with Brighton not open to parting ways with the player, but it could still be on to monitor in the final weeks of the winter window.
