Liverpool have reportedly agreed a deal to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Gakpo's season so far

So far this season, the 23-year-old has scored 13 goals and delivered 17 assists in 24 games across all competitions.

During the recent World Cup in Qatar, the Dutchman ended the tournament as the Netherlands' top scorer with three goals to his name, while he was also their highest-rated player with an overall performance rating of 7.53/10 from WhoScored.

Having well and truly announced himself as one of Europe's top attacking talents, the 23-year-old seemingly now has a new challenge ahead of him in England.

The Latest: Liverpool agree Gakpo deal

Romano took to Twitter on Monday night to relay the news that Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Gakpo from PSV, with the transfer potentially being finalised "later this week".

The Italian tweeted: "OFFICIAL: Liverpool have signed Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, the deal has been signed tonight between clubs. Gakpo will sign long-term deal later this week as contract is fully agreed too. Liverpool will pay £37m plus add-ons, up to £50m potential package."

Gakpo's current club also announced on Twitter last night that an agreement had been reached and the player 'will leave for England imminently'.

The Verdict: Great move from Liverpool

Given how deadly Gakpo has been in front of goal this season, it's safe to say that this should be a very exciting move for Liverpool and their supporters.

In addition to his goals and assists for PSV this season, the winger has also had more shots at goal (49) than any other player in the Eredivisie and made the joint-most key passes in the division (59).

Bearing in mind how the Reds currently have Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota out injured, securing a deal for the Dutch star before the January transfer window has even opened will surely be music to the ears of Jurgen Klopp.

Taking all of that into account, adding Gakpo to their squad will surely be a massive boost for Liverpool heading into the second half of the season, especially if he is able to bring the attacking form that he has shown for PSV this season to Anfield.
