Many Liverpool fans were not impressed with midfielder Thiago Alcantara during his side’s Premier League clash against Everton on Saturday evening.
The 29-year-old started in the centre of midfield alongside Georginio Wijnaldum and Curtis Jones, but found himself dropping deep on occasions to cover for makeshift centre-back and captain Jordan Henderson.
Thiago, who signed from Bayern Munich last summer for £20m, gave the ball away which led to Richarlison’s opening goal early in the first half.
Before the game, the Spaniard had yet to score or provide any assists from eight Premier League starts (Whoscored) after picking up a knee injury during the reverse fixture at Goodison Park.
Should Thiago be dropped?
Unsurprisingly, supporters were quick to get on Thiago’s case on social media as frustrated supporters made their feelings clear.
Fans fume at Thiago
“Thiago is actually trash you know. Clearly only looked good in the German farmers league #LFC”
“I dare to say, Fabinho in our midfield is way way more important than Thiago. Gini is more important that Thiago as well, for our game. #LFC #LIVEVE”
“Thiago gave up possession twice for that goal”
“Thiago is a liability”
“Thiago is a liability. Way too casual again.”
“Thiago again, lazy and slow. Pathetic. #lfc“
“Once again Thiago is involved in giving a goal away. A complete Liability!!!”
