The Lowdown: Morton an exciting prospect
The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season for the Reds last term, making nine appearances in all competitions, including being handed a start away to Tottenham in the Premier League.
Morton impressed with his quality and composure in midfield, with Jurgen Klopp describing him as both ‘outstanding’ and a ‘brilliant footballer’, highlighting his potential.
It now looks as though the teenager will be heading out on loan, in order to gain some more regular first-team experience.
The Latest: Youngster set for Blackburn switch
According to The Times‘ Joyce, Morton is on the verge of joining Blackburn on a season-long loan deal, as he drops down a division for a year.
The report states that the Englishman is ‘keen’ to play regularly in order to aid his development, rather than struggling for playing time at Liverpool.
The Verdict: Perfect experience
This is an ideal move for Morton, allowing him to grow as a footballer and enjoy being a key man at a young age, much like Harvey Elliott did at Blackburn back in 2020/21.
The latter excelled at Ewood Park and really went up a gear, scoring seven times and registering 11 assists in the Championship, and the hope is that Morton will shine, too.
The midfielder is a different player to Elliott of course, often excelling in a deep-lying midfield role, keeping possession and mopping up around him. But, if he can perform all the same in a physically demanding league, it is sure to do wonders for his chances of making a serious challenge at playing time under Klopp.
