Journalist Josh Bunting was left slamming the display of Trent Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool lost 4-1 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Lowdown: Poor start

The Reds' European campaign got off to a poor start as they went down 4-1 to Napoli in their opening game of the group stages.

It could have been worse for the Anfield outfit as well, as Victor Osimhen saw his penalty saved by Alisson in the first half and the home side spurned even more chance in a chaotic opening 45 minutes.

The Latest: Alexander-Arnold slammed

Taking to Twitter, Bunting of the Islington Gazette was particularly critical of Alexander-Arnold's performance, even going as far as to claim that his lack of effort and poor attitude was 'disgusting' and 'disrespectful' to the Merseyside club:

"Football is just as much about attitude than it is skill, Trent Alexander-Arnold has shown a horrible attitude to the club that has made him tonight. Shambolic performance the lack of effort. No tracking back, no effort absolutely disgusting from him in my opinion. Disrespectful."

The Verdict: So bad

In truth, it was one of Alexander-Arnold's worst games in a Reds shirt, as he offered very little going forward and was beaten far too easily defensively.

The England international lost out on three of his individual duels, and failed to record a single dribble or clearance in the match (SofaScore).

He was also inaccurate with eight of his attempted crosses, and gave the ball away a staggering 22 times in total, the most of any player on the pitch (SofaScore).

Nonetheless, Alexander-Arnold will know himself that his performances need to be much better if things are going to turn around for Jurgen Klopp's team.
