Liverpool: Reds in ‘pole position’ to sign Hirving Lozano

Liverpool are reportedly in ‘pole position’ to sign Napoli winger Hirving Lozano in the January transfer window.
The Lowdown: Forward injuries
The Reds have been very unlucky with injuries to some of their key forward players of late, with both Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota set to be out for the next couple of months at least, while Roberto Firmino is also currently sidelined.
This may persuade Jurgen Klopp to dip into the January market in order to help bolster his attacking options as the Merseyside club look to chase down a Champions League place for next season.
The Latest: Lozano interest
As per Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Liverpool are now in ‘pole position’ to sign Lozano in January as he faces an uncertain future in Naples.
His current deal expires in 2024, which means that Napoli could look to cash in on him if he does not sign a new contract.
The Verdict: Ideal cover
Lozano would certainly provide ideal cover in forward areas for Liverpool until the likes of Diaz, Jota and Firmino return from injury.
Hailed as a player who possesses ‘unique quality‘ by his manager Luciano Spalleti, the 27-year-old has scored 10 goals and supplied nine assists in 56 games under his current boss, including seven goal contributions so far this term (Transfermarkt).
He also boasts 16 goals and 11 assists in 63 caps for Mexico (Transfermarkt), building a stellar reputation around the world.
Sharing a similar playing style to Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min (as per FBref), Lozano should be able to replicate his Serie A form in the Premier League, and Liverpool would do well to snap him up.
