As per 90min.com, Liverpool will turn to Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele if they are unable to sign Timo Werner this summer.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the Germany international in the past few months (BT Sport via The Daily Express), although The Mirror claimed that the Anfield outfit have now pulled out of talks for the 24-year-old.

The report from 90min.com says that they haven't abandoned the pursuit of Werner but added that alternatives are being lined up, one of which is France international Dembebe.

Since his move to the Camp Nou, injuries have damaged Dembele's progress, but there is a reason why they paid £96.8m to Borussia Dortmund for his services. During the 2016/17 campaign, he scored 10 goals and provided 22 assists in all competitions, with him starting that season as a 19-year-old.

However, despite his obvious ability, he is far from similar to Werner. The latter is an out-and-out striker, as illustrated by his 30 goals in all competitions this season, and although he also has 12 assists, that is not the main part of his game. Dembele, by contrast, has played just five matches at centre-forward as per Transfermarkt - he is far more accustomed to a wing position.

It is clever from Liverpool to look at alternative options if the Werner deal cannot be completed for whatever reason, but the £50.4m-valued Barcelona forward cannot be the man to whom they turn given his chequered injury record.
