Liverpool have started work on a summer transfer for Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani, according to a new report.

The Lowdown: Liverpool's forward options

Liverpool are already well-stocked with options in forward areas, with Cody Gakpo joining from PSV Eindhoven for £35m after a deal was struck in December, while the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez are also at Jurgen Klopp's disposal.

That said, the Reds have had a very disappointing Premier League season up to this point, currently sitting in 10th place, and so new additions are being considered to provide them with some additional firepower in attack.

The Latest: Kolo Muani targeted

According to a report from L'Equipe (via Metro), Liverpool have already begun work on a summer deal for the Frenchman, but they will have to dig deep, with Frankfurt now demanding £89m.

The player himself is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United also named as potential suitors, although there will be no obligation for the German club to sell, given that he is contracted until 2027.

The Verdict: Worth it?

Not only does Klopp already have plenty of forwards to choose from, but he will have even more by the end of the season, with Jota set to return in late February and Luis Diaz in March.

As such, there is no real reason for Liverpool to add another attacking player to their ranks, despite how impressive the 24-year-old has been for Frankfurt this season, recording a stunning nine goals and 12 assists in 18 Bundesliga appearances.

Hailed as 'special' by sections of the media, Kolo Muani clearly has the talent to be a success at Anfield, but he should only be signed if Frankfurt are willing to negotiate on the huge fee, and Liverpool sell a couple of their forwards in the summer.
