According to journalist Diego de Luca (via areanapoli.it), Liverpool have made a bid of €70m (£62.8m) for LOSC Lille striker Victor Osimhen.
The reporter says that both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have made a bid for the Nigeria striker, with them offering €70m (£62.8m) for his services.
As of now, it is unclear as to who will capture him in the long term.
£62.8m is a huge fee – it would make Osimhen the third-most expensive African footballer of all-time – but given the season he has had with French club Lille, it is understandable. Since making the switch to Les Dogues, he has managed 18 goals in 38 games, whilst also contributing six assists. At the age of 21, that is particularly impressive.
Osimhen is not the only striker to be linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks and months – Timo Werner is another that has been continually mentioned as a potential new arrival for the European champions (Raphael Honigstein via The Daily Express). Given the current pandemic, it remains to be seen whether Jurgen Klopp makes any new signings, but the constant speculation cannot be good news for Roberto Firmino.
Would you like to sign Victor Osimhen?
The 28-year-old Brazil international is the current first-choice centre-forward at the club, and although his workrate and teamwork is constantly applauded, he fails to contribute with a huge amount of goals. Despite playing for a side who leads the English top tier by 25 points, he has managed just eight goals in the Premier League.
A new striker would put his starting spot in danger as soon as the signing would be confirmed. He, more than any, is likely to be hoping no player in his position makes the move to Merseyside any time soon.
