According to Fussballeck, Liverpool are interested in signing SC Freiburg’s Luca Waldschmidt.
The Reds, it appears, are joined by Chelsea, Barcelona and RB Leipzig in their attempts to capture the 24-year-old.
The report adds that the forward has a release clause of €23m (£20.7m), but they also cite Sky, who say that Freiburg could be willing to let him depart for a fee of €15m (£13.5m).
Injuries have curtailed Waldschmidt’s progress this term, but he has still managed to score five goals in 10 Bundesliga starts, which carries on from the nine he accrued in 16 inclusions in the first XI last season in Germany’s top flight. It was his form at the U21 European championships last summer, though, where he particularly caught the eye, with him scoring seven goals in five matches as Germany finished runners-up to Spain.
Would you like to sign Luca Waldschmidt?
This is exactly the kind of transfer Jurgen Klopp loves. A young player who has impressed so far, but currently plays for a club that is a step below Liverpool. Waldschmidt would likely love the chance to play for the Anfield outfit, which could see Klopp get even more out of him.
For £13.5m, this is potentially an absolute steal for Michael Edwards and co – they could do an awful lot worse than taking him to Merseyside and his addition would match their recent transfer policy of signing younger player to develop, such as Harvey Elliott who joined last summer.
