Liverpool: Bayer Leverkusen assistant boss Marcel Daum warns that Kai Havertz will not go cheap - Liverpool Transfer Rumours

Bayer Leverkusen’s assistant manager Marcel Daum has told talkSPORT that Liverpool target Kai Havertz will not be sold on the cheap.

The Reds have been linked with the 20-year-old, who has been in stunning form in the Bundesliga this term and during 2020 in particular. He has 15 goals and eight assists in 38 matches in all competitions overall, of which 12 strikes and seven assists have come in 17 games this year alone.

question mark

Who was Kenny Dalglish's first signing as Liverpool manager?

Interest in the Germany international is obviously high given the quality of his displays but Daum has attempted to warn off any suitors. He said:

“I don’t know what will happen, but at Bayer he has the right place to develop his strengths and improve.

“The only thing I know is that Bayer won’t sell him for a cheap fee.”

“Everyone is asking about Kai Havertz. If you see him play, it tells you everything.

“For me, he has the elegance of Zidane. If you see his movement, he’s very elegant, he’s always calm, he has great passing ability.

“What a lot of people don’t see, because we watch him every day, is that he’s pretty fast. That’s a big bonus.

“He’s a great player; he’s scoring goals, he’s great in the air and he’s pretty fast. It’s up to him how far he can go.

“I can’t say he will be the best German player ever, but he has the talent and there are no limits. He’s displaying signs of Zidane.”

The comparison with Zinedine Zidane, a three-time FIFA World Player of the Year, is a huge one to make but, given that Havertz is the youngest player to score 35 goals in Bundesliga history, it is certainly understandable why he is receiving such high praise.

Would you like to sign Kai Havertz?

Yes

Yes

No

No

He currently has a Transfermarkt value of £72.9m and it has previously been reported that Leverkusen want at least €100m (£89.1m) for his services (as per Algemaan Dagblad via The Daily Express). In this current climate, that would probably be too big a commitment from the Anfield outfit. Still, should they take the risk, they would be signing a player with unbelievable quality.
