Liverpool are said to be eyeing a move for Tottenham goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, as per The Independent.
Liverpool were defeated 7-2 by Aston Villa in a match that will go down in Premier League history, with replacement goalkeeper Adrian directly at fault for the first of the Villans’ strikes.
As such, The Reds are said to be eyeing a last minute move for the Tottenham shot-stopper.
This link has seemingly come out of nowhere, but it is not that much of a surprise following the result at Villa Park on Sunday. It is the first time that a reigning Premier League champion has conceded seven strikes in one match, and although that cannot be blamed solely on the Spaniard, Adrian does not provide the same composure and confidence as Alisson often does.
Argentina international Gazzaniga has made 37 appearances for Spurs, managing just 10 clean sheets during that time. His stats appear to be far superior than Adrian’s too – the former Southampton man has an impressive save percentage ratio of 77.7% over the past two full campaigns, whilst the current Reds number two has 67.4% over the same period.
Would you like to sign Paulo Gazzaniga?
Having said that, this does feel like a slight knee-jerk reaction – after all, Liverpool won every game in the league with Adrian between the sticks last term. It remains to be seen whether this goes through.
