Former Scotland manager Alex McLeish has been reacting to Liverpool and their reported interest in Leeds United winger Raphinha.
During that timeframe, Raphinha has clocked up four goals and four assists from his first 18 appearances, with the Whites sitting in 10th before Saturday’s games.
McLeish identified that the Brazilian wide man has been a huge part of their success this season, having gained promotion as champions from the Championship during the 2019/20 campaign.
When asked by Football Insider about what attracts Liverpool to Raphinha, he said: “Game-changer, a game-changer and we discussed his work rate weeks ago when he lost the ball and he chased a player right across to the other side of the pitch.
“Not just that, when the ball went he went for that as well. Sometimes you can call that headless chicken but he was in a position where he could do it and it wasn’t drawing his defenders out of position for the opposition to go in between them.
“He is calculated, intelligent, football brain of a guy who also has a tremendous attitude off the ball, against the ball.”
Transfer Tavern Verdict
Bielsa has got himself a gem at Leeds, and we are not surprised that Liverpool have supposedly taken an interest in him.
That being said, the club’s owners – Fenway Sports Group (FSG) – may provide a significant transfer budget this summer for Klopp to go out and get the players for next season, after his team’s catastrophic injury crisis.
