Liverpool are on the cusp of making Thiago Alcantara their second senior signing of the summer window.

Talks have been back and forth for weeks, leaving fans anxious and wondering whether a move will come to fruition. A recent update from Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed the Spaniard will definitely be leaving the club this summer. However, no official offer has been received from Liverpool.

Another major transfer link on everybody's lips is where Lionel Messi will end up next season. The Argentinian star is set to leave Barcelona, with Manchester City top contenders to secure his signature (via Sky Sports).

Wayne Rooney has had his say on the two links and feels Liverpool will be in the stronger position should both sides get their man. Speaking to talkSPORT (relayed via @AnfieldEdition), the ex-Manchester United man said: "If Liverpool sign Thiago it’s over. He would be a better signing than Messi at City."

This has sparked a lot of debate amongst fans, with many Kopites siding with their former rival. One Liverpool fan has said 'he knows' what he's talking about, whilst another has described Rooney's comments as 'elite'.
