It appears that the penny dropped for Jurgen Klopp over the Thiago Alcantara talks during Bayern Munich’s Champions League final appearance.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein (relayed via @LFCTransferRoom), Klopp and his coaching staff were watching the competition’s final very closely.
Is Thiago Alcantara the best signing of the transfer window?
The group were reportedly very impressed by the Spaniard’s performance against Paris Saint-Germain and it finally occurred to Klopp that Thiago would be the perfect addition to his squad. Even the players were getting excited about welcoming him to the team.
Liverpool were in talks with the 29-year-old for months and months before finally agreeing a fee earlier in September. Thiago joined the Merseyside outfit for a fee of £20million, becoming the club’s second signing of the window.
The midfielder made his debut against Chelsea on Sunday and put in a solid shift for his new team. He maintained a 90% passing rating after coming off the bench in the second half. Thiago also contributed one key pass, one interception and one tackle (via Sofascore).
Liverpool fans are loving the update on how the signing came about. One fan thinks it’s great that the players were ‘in awe’ of the midfielder and another has described Thiago as the ‘last piece of the puzzle’.
