Jurgen Klopp has broken his silence over Liverpool’s stance on the current Lionel Messi shock departure link.
The Argentinian has decided he will leave Barcelona after reportedly handing in a transfer request earlier this week. Several clubs have already registered their interest, including Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. But the Catalonians will only allow a move if Messi’s mammoth £626 million is activated (via Sky Sports).
Who will win the Community Shield?
Klopp was recently asked about whether Liverpool would be considering a move for the Barca icon and the German was quick to shut down any potential speculation by stating there’s ‘no chance’ he will be arriving at Anfield (via BBC Sport, relayed by @AnfieldEdition).
“Who doesn’t want Messi in their team?” Klopp said. “The numbers are not for us, but a good player, to be honest.”
Indeed, it seems as though finances are a problem for the Reds, who have managed to sign just one new player this summer. Ongoing talks between Liverpool and Thiago have still made no progress either.
Fans have replied to the gaffer’s comments and are discussing the idea of Messi joining the Merseyside outfit. One supporter has sarcastically claimed it’s a ‘smoke screen’ and a move to Liverpool is ‘definitely on’ for the forward.
