Liverpool are currently on the market for a new centre-back to replace Dejan Lovren and may be looking to raid a Premier League rival to acquire one.
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo (relayed via @LFCTransferRoom), the Premier League champions have shown interest in Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger as a back-up in defence.
Would you like to see Liverpool sign Antonio Rudiger?
Lovren left the club this summer after six years of service, joining Russian side Zenit St Petersburg in a £10.9million deal (via BBC Sport). Liverpool have identified their defence as an area in need of strengthening and have already welcomed left-back Kostas Tsimikas to the club, who marks their first signing of the window.
With Frank Lampard similarly looking to revamp his backline, Rudiger could be leaving Stamford Bridge. Some Liverpool fans are on board with the idea of bringing the German to Merseyside to flesh out their defensive options.
One supporter has replied to the news saying they ‘can see Klopp signing him’, whilst another has labelled Rudiger as ‘immense’. Indeed, the 27-year-old had a solid season with the Blues and even notched more tackles (1.4) and blocks (0.5) in defence than Virgil van Dijk’s respective 0.6 and 0.4 per game (via WhoScored).

Dude is immense. He needs a reliable partner and leader. With VVD, he’ll be great imo.

Wouldn’t mind Rudiger as 4th backup. Has experience is German. Why not.

He’d be a great 4th choice?
