Liverpool have ended their pursuit of Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis, who they had targeted to provide back-up for Andy Robertson.
The Premier League champions had identified their defence as an area that needed strengthening. They made contact with recently relegated Norwich over signing Lewis, 22, and tabled an initial offer of £10million for the Northern Ireland international. However, the Canaries almost immediately rejected the bid and claimed they wanted double the price (via James Pearce).
Which left-back should Liverpool sign this summer?
Because of this, Liverpool have closed negotiations and have already moved on. Now, the Reds look set to welcome Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos, who is set to receive a medical next week.
The update was reported by Melissa Reddy, who has now claimed that Lewis wanted to join Liverpool and play under Jurgen Klopp, but the two clubs were simply ‘too far apart’ (relayed via @LFCTransferRoom).
Lots of Reds fans aren’t happy with this revelation and are hitting out at Norwich for allegedly hindering a huge career move for Lewis. One supporter has even gone as far as saying that the Canaries ‘have blood on their hands’ whilst another has criticised the club for being ‘greedy’.

It’s bizarre to think an employer has such control over an employee. I’d be straight to HR!

This must be sad for Lewis. Chances like these don’t come often.
