Liverpool continue to have their name thrown into the mix of potential suitors for Philippe Coutinho, but James Pearce has all but shut down these talks.
According to The Athletic reporter (relayed via @AnfieldEdition), an Anfield return for the Brazilian isn’t on the cards after Pearce branded it ‘unlikely’ to be a reality.
Should Liverpool re-sign Philippe Coutinho?
Coutinho has struggled ever since he left Liverpool in 2018. His mammoth £142million move to Barcelona wasn’t the dream he had hoped for after he found himself falling down the pecking order before being loaned to Bayern Munich. Despite having a good season with the Bundesliga leaders (tallying eight goals and six assists), they aren’t looking to make his deal permanent.
Several Premier League clubs including Newcastle and Chelsea are keen on signing the 28-year-old, but the Reds are seemingly not on the list of interested parties.
Kopites have responded to Pearce’s update, with many remaining optimistic the move could happen. One fan has tweeted ‘it’ll happen’, whilst another thinks the club ‘must keep pushing’ for Coutinho’s signature.
The Brazilian amassed 54 goals and 45 assists during his time on Merseyside (via Transfermarkt), so it’s understandable why many fans are urging for him to make a return.
He's coming. It'll happen, only place where it makes sense for him to go.

We must keep pushing for it. The club will listen as they have done before.
