Liverpool have been linked to what could potentially be their first summer signing in Ozan Kabak.
According to Bild (relayed via @AnfieldEdition), the Merseyside outfit have already acted on their interest in Schalke’s 20-year-old centre-back. The club have made contact with the Bundesliga outfit as they look to bolster their defensive option aheads of the upcoming season.
Should Liverpool sign Ozan Kabak to replace Dejan Lovren?
Lovren’s departure from Anfield has been confirmed, with the Croatian headed to Zenit St Petersburg in an £11million move after six years at Liverpool (via Sky Sports). Jurgen Klopp will need to bring in cover, or potentially competition, for Joe Gomez if the Reds want to fight to keep hold of their Premier League title next campaign.
Loads of fans are already on board with signing Kabak, who has contributed to five clean sheets and three goals with Schalke this season (via Transfermarkt). One fan has replied to the link saying ‘yes please’ whilst another has said the Turkey international is ‘much better than Gomez’.
According to WhoScored, Kabak has won more aerials per match (2.9) and made more tackles (1.4) than Gomez this season, with 2.5 and 0.8 respectively. No transfer fee has been named for the youngster, but he is currently valued at £26.1million.
