Liverpool: Fans don’t want Xherdan Shaqiri sold amid Lazio transfer rumours - Liverpool Transfer Rumours

A number of Liverpool fans have implored the club not to sell Xherdan Shaqiri amid transfer reports linking him with a move to Lazio.

The print edition of Corriere dello Sport claimed [via Sport Witness] that the Serie A side have an interest in the Switzerland international, with the Rome club’s director of football Igli Tare saying that he “fell in love with him” during his time at FC Basel.

The report added that Lazio see him as a ‘market opportunity’ and that Jurgen Klopp is willing to offload the 28-year-old ‘at an affordable price’. The update was later shared on Twitter by @LFCTransferRoom.

Shaqiri barely featured for Liverpool last season, making just 11 appearances in all competitions totalling 263 minutes and starting only twice in the league, with injuries a factor in his limited involvement (as per TransferMarkt). However, he has a track record of scoring against the Reds’ fiercest rivals, with a brace against Manchester United in December 2018 and a goal against Everton a year later.

These Reds supporters on Twitter were up in arms over the potential sale of the Swiss winger – one called for Divock Origi, scorer of just six goals in 42 appearances last term, to be sold instead, while another fumed that “FSG need to go bankrupt” if they sacrifice Shaqiri to make way for Harry Wilson, the 23-year-old who has still made just one senior appearance for Liverpool.
