Noel Whelan has claimed that Liverpool, among a list of other clubs, will be looking at signing Issa Diop from West Ham United this month.
David Moyes’ team have reportedly given the green light for the central defender to leave the East London club on loan in this month’s transfer window.
Should Liverpool sign Diop?
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan has claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s men will be one of a number of teams looking at signing the 24-year-old on loan before the end of January:
“I’m sure there’d be clubs like Liverpool looking at him.
“We’ve already seen (Fikayo) Tomori looking to get away from Chelsea he’s already left for AC Milan and Diop’s another player that is a big name, a big player and if he gets the right club, he could be very important to them.
“Look at Liverpool, they looked very, very average against Burnley on Thursday night, there’s no doubt about that, there’s a lot of players out of form right now for Liverpool.”
Diop would be a smart signing by Liverpool
Given that the January transfer window is almost over, it would be a smart move for the Anfield faithful to get Diop in as soon as possible.
With Fabinho and Jordan Henderson having to play as makeshift centre-backs in recent games, coupled up with a poor run of form, it is now the ideal time for the Reds to bring in Diop to provide some much-needed cover with the long-term injuries to Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
A man who knows the Premier League well having played in no fewer than 69 matches in the top flight in total over the last three consecutive terms (Transfermarkt), the Frenchman may just be the player to save LFC’s season.
