Liverpool: Spanish report drops Sadio Mane claim

Liverpool: Spanish report drops Sadio Mane claim -Liverpool News

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane could be a summer transfer target for Real Madrid, according to a report from Spanish outlet AS (via Sport Witness).

The lowdown: Uncertain future

Out of contract in 2023 (Transfermarkt), the Senegalese attacker has been heavily linked with a move to German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and is yet to commit to the Reds even for next season.

Instead, Mane has cast doubt over his own ongoing status on Merseyside after promising a ‘special’ update after the UEFA Champions League final.

Following the heartbreak of defeat to Real Madrid in the showpiece event in Paris, attention may have already turned to what happens next with the 30-year-old.

The latest: AS drop major claim

As per AS, translated by SW, Liverpool’s conquerors in the final could be keen on signing Mane this summer, having missed out on Kylian Mbappe.

The report states that ‘Madrid could still be an option’ for the 86-cap superstar, particularly were he to have shone in the 1-0 defeat.

It’s claimed that Mane ‘thinks about’ an exit having earned a 7.10 Sofascore rating against Carlo Ancelotti’s side, seeing one shot on target well saved, two shots blocked and making four key passes in an impressive outing.

The verdict: Worrying times

Albeit all good things must come to an end, losing Mane, or indeed any of the fabled front three this summer would be a huge blow to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

After missing out on the Premier League title by a single point and losing the Champions League final, the Reds should be more driven than ever before to right the wrongs next term, with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and the man once labelled a ‘machine’ by Klopp all in situ.

However, with just 13 months left on a deal at Anfield, Liverpool may be forced to cash in on the powerful star and as such, despite the dwindling deal, Mane’s 23 goals and five assists in 2021/22 must demand way in excess of the mooted €30million (£25million) price tag from whoever wants to make the deal happen.

In other news, one Liverpool player has hinted at a summer exit. Find out who it is here.
