According to Ian McGarry of the Transfer Window Podcast, Liverpool have agreed a £140,000-a-week contract with Timo Werner.
The Reds have been continually linked with a move for the RB Leipzig forward over the past few weeks and months, and it has been said that Chelsea and Manchester United have now entered the race for his signature.
Now, though, McGarry says that the Reds have agreed personal terms with the 24-year-old. He says that the deal will be worth around £140,000 a week, with the length of the contract said to be five years.
Whilst there have been plenty of rumours and speculation surrounding the Germany international – this is one of the worst-kept secrets in football – we have never had such specific details in regards to a potential agreement for the forward.
£140,000 a week would be a considerable amount of money and would put Werner very close to the top of the overall highest earners at Anfield. As it stands, only three players earn more than that, and they are Roberto Firmino, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
Do you want Werner at Anfield?
Still, given he has scored 31 goals already in all competitions this term and is one of the most exciting strikers on the planet, £36.4m over five years could well end up being a bargain. It remains to be seen whether Michael Edwards and co can get a deal over the line.
