# Liverpool: Fresh Gavi transfer update emerges

**[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/) reportedly remain interested in signing Barcelona prodigy Gavi this summer, but [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) rivals Manchester City have now also entered the race for the teenager’s signature.**

### The Lowdown: Gavi’s future still uncertain

The 17-year-old is a player of incredible potential, having already started to feature regularly for [Barcelona](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gavi/leistungsdaten/spieler/646740) and [Spain](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gavi/nationalmannschaft/spieler/646740/verein_id/3375), despite his tender years.

Gavi has been [linked](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/liverpool-dispuesto-pagar-clausula-gavi-13719144) with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks, as the Reds try and prise him away from his boyhood club amid uncertainly over his future.

The midfielder is yet to sign a new deal at Camp Nou and the Reds are [thought to be happy](https://beteve.cat/esports/oferta-barca-renovacio-gavi-contracte-jugador-exclusiva/) to trigger his €50m (£42.5m) release clause.

### The Latest: Reds still interested

According to [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/gavi-manchester-city-transfer-news-27207057?_ga=2.30108728.662723087.1655046617-1290286094.1655046615), Liverpool are ‘watching developments closely’, following confirmed interest from Premier League adversaries Man City.

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also mentioned as possible suitors.

### The Verdict: Expect him to stay

If Liverpool manage to sign Gavi, it would feel like an extraordinary piece of business, considering that he has been [hailed](https://www.fotmob.com/news/1ak0hbp18fu0h19b3taeylqa1j/xavi-hails-spectacular-gavi-as-the-future-of-barcelona) as a ‘spectacular’ player by Xavi, who himself was one of the [world’s leading footballers](https://www.marca.com/en/football/barcelona/2020/12/14/5fd7dd1f22601d57638b45ff.html) in his prime.

That being said, it still feels most likely that the teenager will reach an agreement with Barcelona and end up staying put there for many years to come.

Barring rare cases such as Cesc Fabregas, the majority of highly-rated La Masia graduates end up plying their trade at the Catalan giants for the bulk of their careers (think [Xavi](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xavi/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/7607), [Andres Iniesta](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andres-iniesta/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/7600) and [Sergio Busquets](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergio-busquets/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/65230)), and it is easy to envisage Gavi being a long-term hero there and becoming a future legend.
