[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/ibrox-exclusive-rangers-make-approach-to-sign-goalscoring-liverpool-central-midfielder/) claimed last month that Rangers made an approach to sign him on loan for this season, with [the same publication](https://www.footballinsider247.com/liverpool-pull-plug-on-rising-stars-exit-as-they-plan-first-team-role-for-him/) adding that Swansea and Hull were among several Football League clubs to show an interest in the midfielder. ![](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/THE-BREAKDOWN.png) Kane spent last season [on loan at Doncaster](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45051081), where he [scored seven goals in 49 appearances in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/herbie-kane/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/314253) (one in seven games) in his role as a [box-to-box midfielder](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/herbie-kane/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/314253). However, with [three of those being scored against Chorley in the FA Cup](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/herbie-kane/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/314253/plus/0/saison/2018/wettbewerb/FAC/verein/2454), he netted just [four times in 40 League One outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/herbie-kane/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/314253/verein/2454), a ratio of one goal per 10 games. He was not selected in Liverpool’s squad for their pre-season tour of USA, which featured [several of his team-mates in the under-23 side](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool-u21/kader/verein/9252). \[[via This Is Anfield](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2019/07/liverpool-confirm-28-man-squad-for-pre-season-tour-of-the-us/)\] Daniel Atherton, Sepp van den Berg, Yasser Larouci, Adam Lewis, Ki-Jana Hoever, Curtis Jones, Ryan Kent, Rhian Brewster and Bobby Duncan were all included on that tour, but Kane was left at home. \[[via This Is Anfield](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2019/07/liverpool-confirm-28-man-squad-for-pre-season-tour-of-the-us/)\] A scout report on [Soccersouls](https://soccersouls.com/should-the-tigers-sign-herbie-kane/) described the 20-year-old as “[immensely calm in front of goal](https://soccersouls.com/should-the-tigers-sign-herbie-kane/)” and “[a clinical finisher both from inside the box as well as from a long way out](https://soccersouls.com/should-the-tigers-sign-herbie-kane/)“. Liverpool may have had [two of last season’s three joint-top Premier League scorers in Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/goals?se=274), but goals from midfield have been sorely lacking for the Reds. [None of their midfield players have found the net so far this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/leistungsdaten/verein/31), with just [17 goals coming from midfield](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liverpool-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/31/plus/0?reldata=%262018) last season ([James Milner seven, Georginio Wijnaldum five, Naby Keita three, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson one each](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liverpool-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/31/plus/0?reldata=%262018)), and even those figures are significantly skewed by Milner’s [five successful penalties](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-milner/alletore/spieler/3333) in 2018/19. ![](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Verdict.png) If Kane is to become the goalscoring midfield presence that Liverpool currently lack, a record of one goal every 10 games in League One doesn’t suggest that he will be prolific at Premier League level. Also, with the Reds allowing the likes of [Kent](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-kent/profil/spieler/279457), [Ben Woodburn](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-woodburn/profil/spieler/344015), [Harry Wilson](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-wilson/profil/spieler/279455), [Ovie Ejaria](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ovie-ejaria/profil/spieler/337284) and [Sheyi Ojo](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sheyi-ojo/profil/spieler/236510) out on multiple loan spells, a lot of youngsters at the club have found it very difficult to establish themselves in the first-team squad under Jurgen Klopp. Kane could get his chance in the Carabao Cup, especially with Liverpool [up against League One opposition in MK Dons](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/362365-liverpool-carabao-cup-draw-revealed), but with [none of the under-23 side](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool-u21/kader/verein/9252) [appearing for the Reds’ first team since the season started](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liverpool-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/31/plus/0?reldata=%262019), don’t expect to see much of him at Anfield in 2019/20 if he stays at the club. ***Liverpool fans, do you think Kane could succeed in getting into the first team unlike many other youngsters at the club?
