# Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp gives Mohamed Salah update ahead of Genk encounter

**It’s right back to business following Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday with a Champions League clash away to Genk next on the agenda.**

Following a somewhat topsy-turvy start to the group for Liverpool, [losing 2-0 at Napoli and edging past Red Bull Salzburg 4-3 at Anfield](https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1DVJR_enGB846GB846&sxsrf=ACYBGNTZAGjLJvanMDNFj3U0-QjrdS8yww%3A1571662299382&ei=26mtXcGHF_mQ1fAPm7uO8A0&q=liverpool+fixtured&oq=liverpool+fixtured&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0i10l10.843318.849651..849777...2.0..0.89.1427.19......0....1..gws-wiz.....10..35i362i39j35i39j0i131i67j0i67j0i131j0i131i20i263j0i131i10j0.oGU_wQSuR84&ved=0ahUKEwiB4b6osq3lAhV5SBUIHZudA94Q4dUDCAs&uact=5#sie=t;/m/04ltf;2;/m/02_tc;mt;fp;1;;), Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his side can comfortably do the job at Genk on Wednesday evening.

A boost for the trip to Belgium would be the return of Reds talisman Mohamed Salah from an ankle injury he sustained just before the international break, [but according to the Daily Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-provide-mohamed-salah-fitness-20664128), his contention is slightly up in the air.

The Egyptian has been instrumental over the last three seasons for Klopp’s side, [scoring an overall total of 75 goals with 17 of them coming in Europe’s most prestigious competition (per WhoScored)](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/108226/History/Mohamed-Salah) – spearheading Liverpool to two successive Champions League finals and winning the last one.

However, despite being hopeful of a return, there is no definite decision – with the Liverpool boss saying he could ‘maybe’ return after explaining why he didn’t play against Manchester United at the weekend.

“Mo was not ready, that’s how it is,” the [manager explained](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-provide-mohamed-salah-fitness-20664128). “He couldn’t train with the team; I don’t know where it came from that everybody said he will play.

“There was pretty much no chance, maybe for Wednesday, we have to see.”

Indeed, if the Reds want to do the impossible and challenge on all fronts, they will need as many crucial players as possible readily available – especially for big nights in the Champions League.

However, coming up against arguably the weakest opponent in their group, there is also the possibility that Klopp could rest a few key players and give other squad members a chance to run out and potentially impress.
